The Chicago Sky opened up preseason play on Friday night as they took on the Minnesota Lynx on the road. The Sky ended up losing the game, 92-81, but Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese both had solid performances in their WNBA debuts. It would've been nice to get the win, but preseason records don't matter, and these rookies are just looking to get adjusted to the league. Dwyane Wade was watching, and he is excited for the future that both Reese and Cardoso have.

Reese and Cardoso have been SEC rivals in recent years, and they are now teammates with the Sky. Reese played her college basketball at LSU and she won a national title with the Tigers in 2023. Cardoso played at South Carolina, and she and the Gamecocks recently finished up an undefeated season that ended with a national title. They both won big in college, and they want to do the same in Chicago.

Wade liked what he was seeing from Reese and Cardoso on Friday night, and he clearly thinks that the two of them have a bright future in the WNBA. On X (formerly Twitter), Wade wrote “Just the beginning!” while sharing a highlight play of the two Sky rookies.

The Sky now have just one more game in preseason play before they get the regular season started. They will play against the New York Liberty at home on Tuesday night, and then they will get the regular season rolling on May 15th on the road against the Dallas Wings. The Wings are big 12.5-point favorites for that one.

This is a very quick turnaround for Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. They were both playing in the NCAA Tournament about a month ago for their college teams, and now they are starting their new season in the WNBA. They have one more game to get acclimated before the real show starts.

The stars are out in the WNBA

Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso made their WNBA debuts on Friday night, and so did former Iowa star Caitlin Clark. Clark, the #1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft, dropped 21 points as the Indiana Fever lost a close game against the Dallas Wings. The experience was on par with what she expected.

“I thought we played really hard,” Clark said after the game in an interview. “Just a great atmosphere for women's basketball, I think it's a good kickoff to the WNBA season. I think the way we played, I think there were some things that we could've executed a little bit better, I thought we could've gotten into our offense a little bit better. The pace was amazing, that's fun basketball, people like to watch, but overall, definitely what I expected.”

This rookie class in the WNBA is absolutely loaded, and it was a lot of fun getting to see these stars in the pros for the first time on Friday night. So far, the star rookies have been looking good, but the regular season is when things really count. It's going to be fun to watch all of them play this season.
