The San Diego Padres will begin a three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. We're here to share our MLB odds series, make a Padres-Diamondbacks prediction, and pick while showing you how to watch.

The Padres are coming off a series where they won two of three at home against the Cincinnati Reds. Ultimately, the offense produced six runs each over the final two games. But the Padres are 4-6 over the past 10 games. Thus, they are hoping to win more games over the next few weeks.

The Diamondbacks lost two of three to the Los Angeles Dodgers at home. Unfortunately, they are just not finding their footing. The D-Backs will hope to find it against the Padres.

The Diamondbacks won the season series 7-6 last season. Remarkably, it was a significant difference from the past season, when the Padres went 14-5 against them.

Dylan Cease starts for the Padres in the opener. He is 3-2 with a 2.78 ERA. Recently, he went six innings while allowing five earned runs on six hits while striking out five and walking three in a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Cease had four straight quality starts before that game. Significantly, he went eight innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out eight in his one start against the Diamondbacks.

Zac Gallen starts for the Diamondbacks. He is 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA. Ultimately, he went five innings while allowing three earned runs on three hits while striking out three in a loss to the Seattle Mariners. Gallen has had a quality start in two of six starts. Amazingly, he is 3-0 with a 1.78 ERA over four starts against the Padres.

Why The Padres Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Padres usually have a bad offense. But this season, they are seventh in batting average and 10th in on-base percentage. The Padres are also second in runs and ninth in home runs while ranking 12th in slugging percentage.

They have gotten great production at the top of the order as Jurickson Profar has thrived. So far, he is batting .342 with four home runs, 31 RBIs, and 17 runs and continued his hot stretch after going 4 for 4 on Wednesday. But Fernando Tatis Jr. is struggling. Sadly, he is hitting just .233 with six home runs, 17 RBIs, and 23 runs. But Tatis has done well against the Diamondbacks in his career, batting .323 with 17 home runs, 38 RBIs, and 36 runs over 41 career games.

Manny Machado is hitting .250 with four home runs, 16 RBIs, and 16 runs. However, he has struggled against Arizona, batting just .228 with 15 home runs, 39 RBIs, and 42 runs across 86 career games.

The pitching staff has struggled this season. Currently, they are 22nd in earned run average. The Padres are also 18th in walks per hits per nine innings pitched.

The Padres will cover the spread if they can get to Gallen early and force him into long innings. Then, they need Cease to have a great game.

Why The Diamondbacks Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Diamondbacks are ninth in batting average and 10th in on-base percentage. Arizona also ranks third in the majors in runs and 13th in slugging percentage. However, their power is slightly down, as they are 17th in home runs.

Jake McCarthy is the leadoff hitter in the desert. Right now, he is hitting .284 with seven RBIs and eight runs. But he needs to run more as he only has three stolen bases. Meanwhile, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is struggling, hitting .246 with five home runs, 22 RBIs, and 19 runs.

Ketel Marte is doing well, batting .307 with five home runs, 15 RBIs, and 24 runs. Likewise, Christian Walker continues to be solid, with a batting average of .276 with seven home runs, 22 RBIs, and 24 runs. But Corbin Carroll is having an awful sophomore season. So far, he is clipping just .193 with one home run, five RBIs, and 13 runs with eight stolen bases.

The Diamondbacks are having a tough time on the mound. Unfortunately, their team ERA is only 20th in the majors. Arizona also ranks 18th in walks per hit per nine innings pitched.

The Diamondbacks will cover the spread if they can get some early momentum and not let Cease get into a groove. Then, they need to shut down the door on a dangerous offense.

Final Padres-Diamondbacks Prediction & Pick

Can you say pitcher's duel? Ignore the fact that both offenses are hot, and both pitching staffs are struggling. These are two of the best pitchers in baseball, and they are firing on all cylinders. Therefore, it is tough to see a scenario where they struggle on a calm night in the desert. While the teams might score a lot of runs over the weekend, they will struggle to do so here. Take the under and enjoy this pitching duel.
