Former New Orleans Pelicans head coach Monty Williams has been named the San Antonio Spurs Vice President of Basketball Operations, according to the team's official website.

Williams spent two years in San Antonio as a player. In his coaching career, he most recently held the title of associate head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder and was m member of the United States National Basketball Team coaching staff.

The 44-year-old is making a comeback after taking a leave of absence to deal with the loss of his wife, Ingrid, who died in a February car crash.

Williams was seen back in the sidelines alongside Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski, TimberwolvesTom Thibodeau and Syracuse's Jim Boeheim for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

While Marc Stein of ESPN.com reported in July that Williams would try his luck at another head coaching gig, his time with the Spurs will allow him to remain close to his in-laws, who helped take care of the couple's five children.

With this new job, it's safe to say that Williams will be a future part of Team USA based on his proximity to Gregg Popovich, who will succeed Krzyzewski as head coach for the FIBA World Championship.
