The spring transfer portal is now closed, so college football teams are done with their departures, but there are still commitments to be made. Michigan football picked up a big one on Wednesday as Amorion Walker is coming back to Ann Arbor to play for the Wolverines. Walker had spent his entire career with Michigan before transferring to Ole Miss football at the conclusion of last season, but he is now back with the Wolverines.

Amorion Walker is back with the Michigan football team, but his role is expected to look a bit different than it did this past season. Walker just finished up his sophomore season with the Wolverines and he was a defensive back last year after coming in as a wide receiver. Now, he is expected to go back to his WR days.

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore has emphasized the need for WR help in the transfer portal this offseason, and this is certainly one way to get it. The conversion from DB to WR is one of the more common conversions in football, and we recently saw Michigan star Mike Sainristil make a similar move as he went from WR to DB. Wolverines fans are hoping that Walker's change goes as well as that one, and he shouldn't have much trouble considering he has a WR to begin with.

Amorion Walker didn't get a ton of playing time during his first two years at Michigan, and the Wolverines looked pretty loaded in the secondary when he decided to transfer. It would certainly be more difficult for him to earn a starting spot as a DB, but the Wolverines lost their top two receivers from last season, so there are a lot of spots up for grabs there. It makes sense for Walker to go back to being a WR.

When Walker did play WR for Michigan in the 2022 season, he caught just one pass for four yards. Expect him to make some more noise in 2024.

This is a portal gain for the Wolverines, and it is also one less player that they lost to the portal this offseason. They need more receivers, so all in all, this is a big win.

Michigan football added another WR from the transfer portal on Wednesday

Not only did the Wolverines get Amorion Walker back on Wednesday, but they also landed a commitment from Youngstown State transfer CJ Charleston. Charleston played four years at Youngstown State, and he hauled in 33 receptions for 503 yards and four touchdowns last season.

Sherrone Moore said Michigan was going after wide receiver help, and Wednesday was a big day for that.
