The college football spring transfer portal cycle is now officially closed. There are still some top players on the board, but there will be no more subtractions by teams until the winter cycle begins in December. That means for teams like the Miami football team, it's only about addition from here on out.

As with any transfer portal cycle, there were some teams that, even though they may have suffered a loss of players, in the end, they may have come out better with new talent. We're going to look at a few of these teams, who we're calling the winners of the college football spring transfer portal.

Miami Hurricanes

Head coach Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes football team, by the looks of things, were on a mission during this cycle, making them winners in the college football spring transfer portal. Though this spring didn’t offer the biggest talent crop, the Canes took a lot of the top pieces, including the No. 1 running back in Oregon State's Damien Martinez. The former Beaver was one of the top rushers in the country last season and will give Miami a huge boost in their running game.

With Martinez comes Houston wide receiver Sam Brown, who was a top 10 receiver in the Big 12 last season. Both he and Martinez will join winter transfer addition quarterback Cam Ward, making what could be a lethal offense in Coral Gables. Other notable pieces were Louisville linebacker Jaylin Alderman, Marshall cornerback Dyoni Hill, and Michigan State defensive tackle Simeon Barrow Jr., who replaces Jared Harrison-Hunte in the portal. As good as these five incoming transfers are, they may not be the final additions for the Canes out of the portal.

Auburn Tigers

Head coach Hugh Freeze and the Auburn football team will be bringing in six new transfers from the college football spring transfer portal window, and they were all much needed. Outside of finding a quarterback to give competition to Payton Thorne, the Auburn football team went out instead to get the signal-caller some help with hopes of bolstering the offense.

Former Penn State wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith was one of the more coveted receivers during this cycle. He was the Nittany Lions' leading receiver last season, with 53 catches for 673 yards and four touchdowns. Lambert-Smith now joins freshman Cam Coleman and winter portal addition Robert Lewis out of Georgia State, who I called the Tigers' sneakiest portal get.

But where Auburn football really focused was on improving their defensive front. They have three linemen in Arkansas State's Keyron Crawford, USC's Isaiah Raikes, and Indiana's Philip Blidi. These added pieces, to go along with their previous additions, could make the Tigers a bit of a threat in the SEC this upcoming season and fellow winners of the college football spring transfer portal.

UCF Golden Knights

Are the Golden Knights getting ready to take over the Big 12? With the losses of Texas and Oklahoma, it's anyone's game in 2024. To help their chances, UCF made a big splash by landing four-star running back Peny Boone, who was the 2023 MAC Offensive Player of the Year, and Ohio receiver Jacoby Jones. Boone and Jones will now be alongside Arkansas transfer quarterback KJ Jefferson from the winter cycle, making head coach Gus Malzahn likely a happy man.

UCF was also able to snag Miami's four-star edge Nyjalik Kelly, plus secondary players in USC's Tre'Quan Fegans, Ohio State's Cedrick Hawkins, and East Tennessee State's Sheldon Arnold.

Colorado Buffaloes

For a while, head coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado football team were looking like the biggest of losers in the spring transfer portal cycle. They lost a whopping 29 transfers. But what seems to be the norm now in Boulder, Sanders and the Colorado football team recovered rather nicely, giving the team yet another makeover and making them winners during the college football spring transfer portal.

Colorado landed 10 new additions to their roster, making for a total of 38 incoming transfers from both cycles. Emphasis was obviously focused on improving both offensive and defensive lines, with six of the 10 transfers coming from those positions. Four-star Ohio's Rayyan Buell and Pitt's Dayon Hayes are two of the standouts of the defensive front, while Michigan State's Ethan Boyd and Clemson's Zack Ownes are on the offensive line.

Like the Miami football team, Colorado may not be done just yet either. If we've learned anything from Sanders in his short time in Boulder, it's that he's always got an eye on the portal.
