Similar to its predecessor, Hades 2 also gives players the ability to romance certain characters. In this guide, we will teach players everything they need to know about romance in Hades 2, from the player's options, to the gifts, and more.

Hades 2 Romance Options Guide

Let's start with the most important question: who are the romance options in Hades 2? There are a total of six characters that players can romance in Hades 2, most of which are available from the start, while others require some unlocking. Here are the full list of romance options:

  • Hecate
  • Dora
  • Nemesis
  • Odysseus
  • Moros
  • Eris

Of this list, Hecate, Dora, Nemesis, and Odysseus are almost immediately available, as they can be found in the Crossroads without any fuss. Moros and Eris, on the other hand, require some special steps to unlock.

To unlock Moros, players must first encounter him during one of their failed runs. This will lead into a list of tasks that the player must accomplish, namely brewing the Fated Intervention and Doomed Beckoning Incantations. Players will then be able to occasionally find Moros beside The Fated List.

Eris, on the other hand, is a bit more tricky. First, players must brew the Permeation of Witching-Wards Incantation, which will allow them to reach the surface.  Afterward, the player will occasionally find Eris by the Fishing Pier Doors to the left of Moros. The player also does not need to have encountered Eris before finding her in Crossroads

Just as an added note, it's helpful to have brewed the Empath's Intuition Incantation, as this will allow the player to see their relationship level with the game's various characters. It will also show you what gifts to gift them, which we will tackle in the next part.

The Book of Shadows after Empath's Intuition is unlocked.

Hades 2 Romance Gifts Guide

To improve your relationship with any of the above romance options, the player must gift them some gifts. There are a total of four gifts that players can give their chosen romance option, each with different effects.

The first gift that players can gift, and the gift players will gift the most, is Nectar. Nectar can be found during the player's forays into the underworld, as well as from the Wretched Broker for 30 Bones each. Gifting one to a character will increase their affection by one heart.

Gifting Nectar to a character for the first time will also reward the player with a Keepsake. Keepsakes are powerful items that players can bring along with them and gives effects such as additional Death Defiance stacks, healing in between stages, and more.

Instead of Nectar, the second heart instead requires Bath Salts.

There is, of course, a limit, as there are some hearts that require special gifts to get. This is where the other gifts come in.

The second gift that players can give characters is the Bath Salts. This allows players to take a dip in the Hot Springs with their chosen partner. This does, however, require the player to brew the Rite of Vapor Cleansing Incantation for 2x Moly, 2x Lotus, and 2x Nightshade.

The third gift is Ambrosia, which you can think of as an upgraded version of the Nectar. This allows players to share a drink with their chosen partner. To unlock Ambrosia, players must brew the Rite of Social Solidarity Incantation, which will unlock the Taverna for 2x Nectar and 2x Garlic.

The fourth and last gift is the Twin Lures. This gives players the ability to fish with their chosen partner at the Fishing Pier. Unlocking the Fishing Pier, and in turn the Twin Lures, require the Rite of RIver Fording Incantation, which will need 4x Driftwood and 2x Cattail.

When checking the Book of Shadows, players will notice the unfilled hearts with an icon of a gift in it. When players see this, they must make sure to give the required gift to get the missing heart. Much like Nectar, players will be able to buy the above gifts from the Wretched Broker for varying amounts of Bones.

Hades 2 Romance – What Happens At Max Hearts?

Once players reach ten hearts with a character, they will receive a special cutscene between Melinoe and the chosen character. Or at least, that's what would have happened if this was the first Hades game. Sadly, the relationships in Hades 2 are capped at nine hearts, so players currently cannot reach Max Hearts.

If the player opens up their Book of Shadows, they will see that the tenth heart has a clock or time icon on it. Additionally, the Book of Shadows entry will read that the character “wants nothing more from you for now (perhaps in the future…)”.

This likely suggests that the final heart will arrive at a later update, along with whatever special cutscene it entails. After all, Hades 2 is still in Early Access, so updates will be arriving in the future. Should an update to the game's romance system arrive, we will be sure to update this article.

That's all for our guide about the romance system of Hades 2, from the game's various gifts to the romance options, and more. Hades 2 is currently available in Early Acces on the Epic Games Store and Steam.
