Flock Together Research Day: May 11 from 2 PM to 5 PM local time

Just as the name suggests, the Flock Together Research Day in Pokemon GO is set to feature avian Pokemon across multiple generations. The featured birds range from the Kanto region's early route bird encounters up to the tiny robins from the Kalos region.

The Flock Together Research Day event in Pokemon GO will commence on May 11 from 2 PM to 5 PM local time.

Featured Pokémon

Just as we mentioned above, the Flock Together Research Day in Pokemon GO is all about bird Pokemon. As such, event-themed field research tasks will be featuring various species of bird Pokemon as rewards.

Here's a complete list of all the bird Pokemon that players can encounter after finishing the event-themed field research tasks:

  • Spearow
  • Doduo
  • Hoothoot
  • Taillow
  • Rufflet

Besides that, other bird Pokemon will be spawning more in the wild. The following bird Pokemon will have boosted spawn rates for the duration of the Flock Together Research Day event:

  • Pidgey
  • Murkrow
  • Wingull
  • Starly
  • Pidove
  • Fletchling

With all those bird Pokemon, it is best to mega evolve a Flying-type Pokemon like Mega Rayquaza and Mega Pidgeot for the extra candy bonus when you catch these event-themed Pokemon.

On another note, lucky enough players might also encounter the shiny variants of all the featured bird Pokemon during this event.

Timed Research

For the Flock Together Research Day event, there will be an event-exclusive ticketed timed research that is available for players to purchase for a dollar (or the equivalent pricing tier in their local currency).

The exclusive timed research for the Flock Together Research Day event in Pokemon GO will give out the following Pokemon as rewards:

  • Spearow
  • Doduo
  • Hoothoot
  • Taillow
  • Rufflet

Please note that this timed research expires. The tasks associated with this timed research must be completed and their rewards must be claimed before the event concludes at 5 PM local time.

Medals to Grind on Flock Together Research Day

Trainers can obtain medals in the game by completing different objectives and reaching predetermined benchmarks. A few of those medals also provide ongoing in-game bonuses.

If the perks weren't enough to persuade you, players actually do need to collect a certain quantity of medals, specifically the platinum medals which are the highest tier of medals, in order to continue rising up past Level 40. Players must obtain five Platinum Medals to reach Level 43, twenty Platinum Medals to reach Level 47, and thirty Platinum Medals to reach Level 49.

Pokedex Medals

Completing Pokedex medals is as easy as registering Pokemon to the Pokedex. Here are the Pokedex medals you can possibly finish during this event:

  • Kanto Medal – Register 151 Kanto region Pokemon in the Pokedex (Spearow, Doduo, and Pidgey and their respective evolutions)
  • Johto Medal – Register 100 Johto region Pokemon in the Pokedex (Hoothoot and Murkrow and their respective evolutions)
  • Hoenn Medal – Register 135 Hoenn Region Pokemon in the Pokedex (Taillow and Wingull and their respective evolutions)
  • Galar Medal – Register 25 Galar Region Pokemon in the Pokedex (Starly and its succeeding evolutions)
  • Unova Medal – Register 156 Unova Region Pokemon in the Pokedex (Rufflet and Pidove and their respective evolutions)
  • Kalos Medal – Register 72 Kalos Region Pokemon in the Pokedex (Fletchling and its succeeding evolutions)

Pokemon Type Medals

Completing Pokemon type medals is as easy as catching Pokemon of a specific type. Here are the Pokemon-type medals you can grind for during this event:

  • Bird Keeper Medal – Catch 2,500 Flying-type Pokemon (all the featured bird Pokemon)
  • Swimmer Medal – Catch 2,500 Water-type Pokemon (Wingull)
  • Schoolkid Medal – Catch 2,500 Normal-type Pokemon (Spearow, Doduo, Hoothoot, Taillow, Pidgey, Starly, Rufflet, Pidove, and Fletchling)
  • Delinquent Medal – Catch 2,500 Dark-type Pokemon (Murkrow)

Miscellaneous Medals

There are other medals you can get by simply reaching certain milestones in Pokemon GO. Here are the rest of the medals you can grind for during this event:

  • Collector Medal – Catch 50,000 Pokemon
  • Scientist Medal – Evolve 2,000 Pokemon
  • Sightseer Medal – Spin 2,000 unique PokeStops
  • Pokemon Ranger Medal – Complete 2,500 Field Research tasks
  • Backpacker Medal – Visit 50,000 PokeStops
  • Jogger Medal – Walk 10,000 kilometers
  • Picknicker Medal – Use a Lure Module to help any trainer catch 2,500 Pokemon
  • Triathlete Medal – Achieve a Pokemon catch streak or PokeStop spin streak of seven days 100 times
  • Mega Evolution Guru Medal – Mega evolve 36 different Species of Pokemon
  • Successor – Mega evolve a Pokemon 500 times
