The Reds make the trip to San Francisco to face the Giants! These two teams have not been playing well with Reds struggling across the board, while the Giants have been very inconsistent. Our MLB odds series has our Reds-Giants prediction, odds, and pick for Friday.

The Reds have been inconsistent to start the season with a 16-21 record and are currently on an eight-game losing streak. The Reds have struggled to get going behind the plate ranking dead last in the MLB in team batting average. Their pitching has been better but is still in the bottom half of the MLB in team ERA. Spencer Steer, Elly De La Cruz, Will Benson, Jeimer Candelario, and Jake Fraley have been standouts in a struggling offense to start the season. Andrew Abbott, Hunter Greene, and Graham Ashcraft have all been varying levels of good for the Reds on the mound, despite the whole staff struggling at times. The Reds need to get back on track and recently they have been spiraling.

The Giants have disappointed so far this season towards a 17-22 record. The Giants are in the middle of the pack when it comes to their bats, but they are ranked near the bottom of the league with their pitching staff. Matt Chapman, Thairo Estrada, Michael Conforto, and Jorge Soler make up the bulk of a very talented batting lineup. Their pitching needs to be better, but Logan Webb, Kyle Harrison, and Jordan Hicks have been solid to varying degrees for the Giants, despite their struggles overall. The Giants have talentbut they have had issues putting it all together this season.

Why The Reds Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Reds are putting Andrew Abbott on the mound where he has a 1-4 record, a 3.32 ERA, and a 1.16 WHIP. Through 38 innings, he has allowed 15 runs on 33 hits with 11 walks and 35 strikeouts up to this point in the season. In his seven appearances, the Reds are 3-4 in the seven games that he's appeared in this season. In his last start, he pitched five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with zero walks and eight strikeouts in a loss. Abbott has been solid this season for the Reds and gets a decent matchup against an average Giants offense.

The Reds have struggled on offense this season. They are dead last in batting average at .209 and that's after they finished with a .249 batting average last season. Elly De La Cruz leads the way in most batting categories next to Spencer Steer. De La Cruz leads the way in batting average at .264, in home runs at eight, in OBP at .367, and in total hits at 34. Steer then leads in RBI at 25. This is going to be a tough matchup because Logan Webb has been very good for the Giants on the mound.

Why The Giants Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Giants are putting Logan Webb on the mound where he has a 3-3 record, a 3.50 ERA, and a 1.36 WHIP up to this point in the season. He has allowed 19 runs on 51 hits with 12 walks and 36 strikeouts through 46.1 total innings. In his eight appearances this season, the Giants have gone 4-4. In his last start, Webb pitched four innings where he allowed five runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts in a Giants loss. Webb has been very good for the Giants on a struggling pitching staff and he gets a great matchup against a Reds offense that has struggled all year.

The Giants' offense has been solid this season. They are 14th in team batting average at .241 after finishing last season with a .254 batting average. The offense is led by Michael Conforto in almost every important batting category. Conforto leads the way in batting average at .275, in home runs at seven, in RBI at 20, in OBP at .329, and in total hits at 38. The Giants offense has been solid and gets a decent matchup against Andrew Abbott on the mound.

Final Reds-Giants Prediction & Pick

The Reds are spiraling right now, having lost eight straight games and counting. The Giants have been inconsistent this season and have struggled to get things together so far this season. The pitching difference is marginal between Abbott for the Reds and Webb for the Giants. The biggest difference is that the Giants have been much better behind the plate than the Reds. Expect the Giants to win and cover at home and continue the Reds losing streak to nine games in a row.
