The defending World Series champs will travel to the thin air of the Mile High City when they take on the lowly Colorado Rockies. It is time to check out our MLB odds series where our Rangers-Rockies prediction and pick will be made.

Although slumping a bit to begin their title defense this season, the Rangers are coming off a high-scoring affair resulting in a 12-11 win over the Oakland Athletics, Texas has managed to come out victorious in five of their previous six games and appears to be flexing their championship muscles as the regular season continues to progress.  As it stands, Texas will plan on sending out former Colorado Rockies starter Jon Gray with the hopes of getting revenge on his past team. Overall, Gray has amassed a 1-1 record to go along with a 2.50 ERA in seven starts up to this point.

All in all, things could not get more disastrous for the Rockies if they tried. Failing to have won back-to-back games so far this season and only mustering up a league-worst 8-28 through the opening 36 games of the campaign, it is the Rockies that may go down in history as one of the worst teams ever to grace a baseball diamond. Currently, the Rockies are an ugly 8-28 to begin the season and already look to be eliminated from postseason play as they trail the division-leading LA Dodgers by a whopping 16.5 games in the NL West. Looking to put forth a stellar start for his team will be lefty Austin Gomber who is 0-2 with a 3.79 ERA.

Why The Rangers Will Cover The Spread/Win

It hasn't always been pretty for last year's champs, but don't be surprised if the Rangers are about to embark on an impressive winning stretch in the coming weeks. Having already scratched the surface of this with only two losses in their past eight games combined, the biggest strength of this Rangers squad is how effective they are offensively. Although they serve as a middle-of-the-pack team in regards to covering the spread with an overall record of 20-20 ATS, Texas could find themselves thriving at the plate in high altitude.

With the baseball expected to travel further, Texas' offense should be able to feast upon a Colorado pitching staff that ranks near the bottom of Major League Baseball in surrendering runs. In fact, it is the Rockies that possess a league-high 5.67 ERA. Blame it on the altitude or don't, but the Rangers high-octane offense could be in for a fabulous day at the office if they can get the party started in the early frames of this contest.

Furthermore, Jon Gray's highly anticipated return to Coors Field will certainly be something to keep an eye on. A third-overall pick by the Rockies during the 2013 MLB Draft, Gray pitched in Colorado for seven seasons before signing a four-year, $56-million dollar deal with the Rangers prior to the 2022 campaign. Be on the lookout for Gray to come out plenty motivated when pitching against his former employer in this one.

Why The Rockies Will Cover The Spread/Win

Teetering on the line of pure pathetic nature, the Rockies are bad folks. While we can continue to bash on how bad this franchise is, there are still ways for Colorado to find ways to cover the spread and ultimately pull off a shocking upset in front of the home crowd.

For starters, the Rockies have shockingly been trailing at one point or another in 36 of 37 games played thus far. While this stat is baffling to say the least, Colorado must somehow find a way to reverse this trend. Luckily, they may have put forth their best showing of the season up to this point as they recently dismantled their NL West rival San Francisco Giants by a score of 9-1.

Without a doubt, southpaw  Austin Gomber has had his fair share of struggles since coming to Colorado in a trade from St. Louis, but he still remains as one of the Rockies' more sturdy pitchers in the starting rotation. Since the Colorado offense is usually porous and will be hard to rely on putting up runs for the second-straight game, it may solely be up to Mr. Gomber to lead his team to victory from the pitcher's mound.

Final Rangers-Rockies Prediction & Pick

Don't think too hard about this one. With a sloppy 12-22 record against the spread which is the fourth-worst mark in baseball, it is hard to imagine the Rockies covering in this one. Take the Rangers and don't look back!
