Favorites To Win Cup Series at Darlington

Kyle Larson won on this track, after an amazing race in the fall of 2023. He started 18th in the race and would be third at the end of the third stage and second at the end of stage two. Still, there have been some recent struggles for Larson. Starting with the fall race of 2018, Larson went four straight races finishing in the top three. He was top give in both stages in those races as well. Then, in the three races after, he started in the top seven and would finish outside the top ten. In the Spring 2022 race, Larson started second and then led 30 laps before engine trouble caused a 36th-placed finish. Last spring, he would start seventh, but fishing 20th.

Denny Hamlin sits second on the odds board but was not good at this track last year. Last year in the spring, Hamlin started eighth, would lead nine laps, and then finish 12th. In the fall, he started second, would lead 177;aps, and won both stages of the race,  before finishing 25th. Still, there is a lot of positive with Hamlin and why he is so far up the board. In the last 12 races, Hamin has led laps in ten of them. Further, he has finished inside the top seven of a stage in 11 of the last 12 races here. In that time, Hamling has won on the track three times, finished second once, and has two top-five finishes.

Martin Truex Jr. has had some tough luck here as of late. Last fall, he started 31st but would move his way up to 18th. In the spring race last year he led 145 laps, was first after stage one, and then found an accident and finished 31st. It was similar in both races in 2022. He led laps in both of them, but an accident and water pump issue took him out of the race. When tragedy to his car has not struck, he has been solid. In the spring race of 2021, Truex led 248 laps and won the race.

William Byron is having a great year and has a solid record here at Darling. He finished four last fall after climbing up from starting 23rd. Byron is also the defending champion of the Goodyear 400. Last spring, Byron started fourth, would lead just seven laps, and then won the race. Byron was also solid in the fall race of 2022. He started third and would lead 50 laps, finishing first in stage one and the race in eighth place. With Byron already winning three times this year, he could find his way back to the winning circle here.

Sleepers To Win Cup Series at Darlington

Christopher Bell has not won yet on this track, but he has been in a position to win. Last time out, in the fall race, Bell started first and would lead 40 laps. He would also be in eighth after the first stage. Bell was also in the top ten of both stages in the spring race last year, before finishing 14th. Further, Bell was solid here in 2022. He had a fifth and sixth-place finish in those two races. He also was in the top seven in all four stages between the two races. While Bell does not have a win here, he has been solid and could have a good performance in this one.

Kyle Busch does have a win here, but that was in May of 2008. Still, when he has not had car troubles, he has had some solid runs. In the last eight races, he has finished outside the top 30 three times. Twice was due to accident, and once was due to engine issues. He also was leading one of the races after stage two and led 174 laps between the three. Beyond that, he has finished in the top ten four times, and the top five twice in the last eight races at this track. Last year he finished 11th in the fall and seventh in the spring at Darlington.

Cup Series at Darlington Prediction & Pick

Darlington is one of the most unpredictable tracks. Picking a winner would be akin to throwing a bet away. There are too many factors. If you want to play an outright winner, take a long. The shot would be the best return on investment. Still, there a plenty of solid plays to make for this race. People with good records of avoiding accidents and racing well on this style oftrack should be targets, and that is what we have here.
