After leading Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, Jenna Ortega will not return for Chaos Theory. She previously voiced Brooklynn for five seasons of the Netflix series.

Netflix dropped the trailer for Chaos Theory, a sequel series to Camp Cretaceous, but Ortega was notably absent from the cast list. Some fans probably hoped that this was a typo. However, that does not appear to be the case.

Deadline confirmed that Ortega will not be returning for the series. While it's definitely a bummer, the move makes sense. Chaos Theory will take place six years after the events of Camp Cretaceous. There will be returning cast members such as Rani Rodriguez, but Ortega's role has been recast.

Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous was an expansion of the film series. It was an animated series for Netflix that followed a group of teenagers trapped on Isla Nublar. Chaos Theory will premiere a 10-episode season on May 24.

The fact that Ortega is one of the world's biggest stars certainly makes it hard to commit to anything. She is known for her roles in the Scream franchise and will soon star in Beetlejuice 2. Perhaps she was busy with one of those projects while Jurassic World: Chaos Theory was in production.

Jenna Ortega first gained notoriety for her role in Jane the Virgin and Disney Channel's Stuck in the Middle. She then landed a leading voice role in Elena of Avalor. In 2019, Ortega starred in the second season of Netflix's You.

On the big screen, Ortega made her film debut in the MCU's Iron Man 3 in a small role. Ortega would go on to star in Insidious: Chapter 2, The Little Rascals Save the Day, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, and Yes Day. She then gave an acclaimed performance in The Fallout. The drama premiered at the 2021 SXSW (South by Southwest) festival.

Her rise in popularity

And then her popularity blew up in 2022. Ortega was introduced into the Scream franchise in 2022's fifth installment. She and Melissa Barrera were introduced as Tara and Sam Carpenter, respectively, and were positioned as the new leads of the franchise.

However, neither Ortega nor Barrera will appear in the forthcoming seventh film. Barrera was fired from the film after her posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Ortega subsequently dropped out of the project as well as director Christopher Landon.

Neve Campbell, who led the first film Scream films as Sidney Prescott, will return to the franchise after sitting out of the sixth film. Scream creator Kevin Williamson will direct the film.

After her Scream debut, Ortega directed Studio 666, X, Miller's Girl, and Wednesday. Coming up, Ortega will star in Beetlejuice 2 (properly titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), Kiara and the Sun, Winter Spring Summer or Fall.
