Why The Giants Will Cover The Spread/Win

Logan Webb is the workhorse for the Giants. He is having another great season, as well. Webb has made 10 starts this season, he has thrown 59.1 innings, and owns a 3.03 ERA, and 1.35 WHIP. In his 10 starts, Webb has allowed just two home runs, as well. Pittsburgh has the fifth-lowest batting average in the MLB, fourth-lowest slugging percentage, and they have struck out the fourth-most times. Webb has a great chance to continue his success in this game and lead the Giants to another win.

The Giants are facing Martin Perez in this game, so they have a chance to score some runs. The main reason being the Giants are better against left-handed pitching this season in the batting average category. Their home run rates stay roughly the same against lefties and righties this season, as well. Perez is also at the bottom of the league in the MLB in a lot of the advanced stat categories. As long as the Giants continue to hit lefties well, they will win this game.

Why The Pirates Will Cover The Spread/Win

Perez has had a couple of rough starts in a row heading into this game. However, he has had a start against the Giants this season. In that game, Perez was lights out. He threw six innings, allowed just four hits, and no earned runs. Along with that, Perez struck out four. Perez is going to attack the zone, and he needs to do so the same way he did in their first matchup. If Perez can have a repeat performance against the Giants, the Pirates will win this game.

Pittsburgh, as mentioned, is not having a great season offensively. However, they are going to put the ball in play in this game. Webb has a low strikeout and whiff rate. Along with that, Webb's xBA is over .300 while his average exit velocity allowed is over 90mph. Webb is not going to walk many batters, so the Pirates need to be aggressive at the plate. The Pirates should be able to put the ball in play, and do it hard. If they can do that, they will have a great chance to start this series with a win Tuesday night.

Final Giants-Pirates Prediction & Pick

This could end up being a good game. In the first series between these two teams, the Giants were able to take two of three. For this one, I am going to take the Giants to win straight up. I like Logan Webb and what he has been able to do this season. The Giants moneyline is my pick for this game.
