The Georgia football program won back-to-back national titles recently and sent a ton of players to the NFL. Head coach Kirby Smart has becoming a national sensation, and now he has been awarded with a hefty two-year contract extension. Smart officially becomes the highest-paid coach in the country with a deal at an average of $13 million per year, per a report from Seth Emerson of The Athletic.

‘News: Kirby Smart is receiving a two-year contract extension and a raise that will make him once again the highest-paid coach in college football. Two year extension through Dec. 2023, $1.75 million raise. Annual salary now $13 million per year, with bonuses up to $1.55 million.'

It isn't just Smart who is receiving a new deal. The Georgia athletic director has also agreed to a new contract extension, per Emerson.

‘Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks is also receiving a new deal. Brooks gets one more year, so it now runs through 2030, for an annual salary of $1,275,000, increasing by $100,000 each year of the agreement. Plus bonuses of up to $200,000 each year.'

Brooks had nice things to say about Smart, of course, after announcing the extension on Thursday: “I’m sure you will agree with me that his leadership of our program has been tremendous. This new contract is well deserved.”

Georgia president Jere Morehead also had a statement on the extension for AD Josh Brooks:

“Josh’s performance as athletic director has been outstanding, and we’re pleased with the direction of our athletic department,” Morehead said. “We know that the success of our teams has been outstanding, fundraising continues to exceed expectations, and our student-athletes are excelling in the classroom.”

In 2024, the Bulldogs will once again be among the favorites with Carson Beck taking over at the quarterback position.

Kirby Smart's resume speaks for itself

What Kirby Smart has done since coming to Athens is incredible. He was an assistant at Alabama from 2007 until 2015 and took the Georgia job in 2016, which was his first time as a head coach.

Since then, he has compiled an unreal 94-16 record with a 5-1 make in the College Football Playoff. This includes two SEC titles, six SEC East Division titles, and a pair of national championships. He has also been named the SEC Coach of the Year three times, so Smart has made his name known quickly.

This past season Goergia went 13-1 with an 8-0 record in the SEC. But, they missed out on the College Football Playoff after falling to Alabama in the SEC title game in the final Smart-Nick Saban matchup.

Now, he has become the highest-paid coach in the country as the Georgia football program continues to churn out NFL talent and become one of the top teams in the country year after year. A well-deserved honor for Kirby Smart.
