Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid star in Coralie Fargeat's horror film The Substance, Variety reported.

Arthouse distributor, production company and streamer Mubi acquired the rights to release the movie in cinemas this year. For all other territories, Mubi-owned company The Match Factory will handle the sales. The film will compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. It will hold its world premiere there on May 19.

What is The Substance?

The Substance was written and directed by Fargeat. She made her feature film debut in 2017's action thriller Revenge. The French filmmaker received numerous accolades from various independent film festivals around the world.

The movie's logline begins with, “Have you ever dreamed of a better version of yourself?”

“You should try this new product: The Substance. It changed my life. With The Substance, you can generate another version of yourself, younger, more beautiful, more perfect… Just share the time. One week for one, one week for the other. A perfect balance of seven days. Easy isn't it?” the description continued.

Fargeat also serves as a producer along with Working Title's Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan. A Good Story's Nicolas Royer and Working Title's Alexandra Loewy served as executive producer.
