The Colorado football team was an interesting one last year. They had the buzz surrounding them of a top team in the country, but they finished in last place in the Pac-12. They will once again have that buzz surrounding them in the 2024 season, but they need to improve the on-field results. Colorado has some good talent, and their best player is Travis Hunter, who plays both on offense and defense for the Buffaloes.
Travis Hunter had a good season last year and he is poised for another big year. The Colorado football team wasn't good last season, but Hunter was one of the best players in college football. Players that can play on both offense and defense don't come around often, and guys like Hunter who are stars at both are especially rare.
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders knows how good Hunter is and he knows that he has a future in the NFL. It's going to be interesting to see where Hunter players when his NFL career does start, and Sanders thinks that he is good enough to play both offense and defense at the next level.
“Well he's going to decide I'm pretty sure,” Deion Sanders during an appearance on the Full Send Podcast. “Like he's not going to let nobody tell him what he can't do, he's never has, never will. I'm pretty sure the team that drafts him will know from the interviewing process his desires, and they may not let him play as many snaps as he's playing in college, but he's going to have a package on defense and a package on offense I'm pretty certain, yeah he's that good. You'll be hurting yourself if you don't let him play on the other side of the ball.”
A lot of people don't agree with Sanders' thoughts on the matter as prominent people in the football community such as Richard Sherman have said that Hunter isn't going to do both in the NFL. Playing both offense and defense is certainly more common in college.
Travis Hunter had a special season in 2023
The numbers that Travis Hunter put up last season were extremely impressive. He played cornerback and wide receiver for the Colorado football team, and he finished the year with 31 total tackles and three interceptions on defense. On offense, Hunter hauled in 57 receptions for 721 yards and five touchdowns. He truly excelled on both sides of the field.
If the Buffaloes are going to the have the season that they want to have in 2024, they will need another big year for Hunter. He is the best player on this team, and even with a year like that in 2023, Colorado still only won four games and they finished in last place in the Pac-12.
The buzz is loud surrounding this Colorado team, and they need to deliver. Based on where this team was heading into the Deion Sanders era, just getting to a bowl game would be a huge step in the right direction this season. Obviously they will be reaching for bigger goals, but it would be a big win for the program if they go bowling next year. After they get that out of the way, then they can start thinking about conference championships.
