Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has a whole lot of reasons to be grateful. After winning his third Super Bowl title back in February and ascending to full-blown, world-wide fame due to his relationship with music icon Taylor Swift, Kelce agreeing to a two-year, $34 million contract extension with the Chiefs — which makes him the highest-paid player at his position in the NFL — is just the icing on the proverbial cake. And he wasn't going to do anything to jeopardize all of that.

On the most recent episode of the “New Heights Podcast,” co-hosted by Travis and his recently retired brother Jason Kelce, the Chiefs tight end explained that negotiations with the Chiefs were quick and easy, thanks in large part to a mutual appreciation between himself and the franchise he's spent the last eleven years with.

“I'm so excited and so thankful to this organization for getting it done, making me feel appreciated and compensated the right way,” Travis Kelce shared with his brother, before citing a handful of specific individuals within the Chiefs organization who have been instrumental in making Kansas City a second home for the Cleveland Heights, Ohio native.

“I'm so fricking thankful to [general manager] Brett Veach, [president] Mark Donovan, Coach [Andy] Reid — Big Red, I love you, big guy — and obviously [team owner] Clark Hunt. The Hunt family has been unbelievable to not only myself and this Kansas City community, but they've just been so generous since I've been here in making it feel like home.”

Kelce himself isn't the only one who is excited that he'll be staying in Kansas City. Immediately following the news of Kelce's extension, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took to Twitter to congratulate his long-time teammate, saying, “I told y'all I'll never let him leave! Congrats my guy!”

Patrick Mahomes' excitement is well-warranted. Since taking over as the Chiefs starting quarterback for the 2018 season, over 7,000 of Mahomes' regular season passing yards and 52 touchdowns have gone Kelce's direction, and in the postseason, the duo is even more potent. In 18 playoff games as teammates, Mahomes and Kelce have hooked up for 1,609 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Not that there was much concern within the Kansas City Chiefs organization, but any thought that Travis Kelce might hold out into training camp in order to boost his own contract value was not only quickly shot down because of how easily the deal came together, but also because Kelce himself said it was never even a thought that crossed his mind.

“I'm not a guy that holds out. I'm a guy that loves coming into the building, and the Chiefs know that. So, for them to want to get this done for me knowing how much blood, sweat and tears that I put into this thing, I'm extremely grateful.”
