In preparation for the next calendar year, Nike has already made announcements that they will be bringing back some of their classic silhouettes from the 1990's. The decade was ruled by athletes like Michael Jordan and Bo Jackson campaigning alongside Nike to release their newest shoes. On of these stars was “Primetime” Deion Sanders, whose Nike Air Diamond Turf line will be returning in retro versions over the next year. Nike and Deion Sanders first introduced the Nike Air Diamond Turf in 1993. The shoe was the first of its kind as it served as both a football shoe and baseball cleat when playing on the popular astroturf fields of the 90's. Deion Sanders was the only athlete competing in both baseball and football at the time, so the marketing campaign behind his signature line couldn't have been more accurate for the type of personality Sanders was (and still is).

Recently, Sanders and Nike teased the upcoming models of the Nike Air DT Max, one of the more popular sneakers in his turf line. LeBron James even took a liking to the silhouette as he meshed it with his Nike LeBron 21s and created a wild basketball shoe from it. While there won't be much basketball crossover ahead of this release, fans still remember the Nike Air Diamond Turf as a staple sneakers in the 90's.

The original colorway of the Nike Air Diamond Turf was released in 1993 and featured a red/black scheme throughout, matching the Atlanta Falcons color scheme that Sanders rocked for his first five seasons in the NFL. Once his stardom grew and he left the Falcons for the San Francisco 49ers, Sanders made history by becoming the first athlete ever to compete in both a Super Bowl and a World Series. Now, Nike brings back his original Nike Air Diamond Turf in its classic 49ers colorway.

The Nike Air Diamond Turf is a tough silhouette made as a hybrid to cater towards both football and baseball athletes. The shoes feature an all-leather layered upper with a mixture of black and white as the base. The “49ers” aspect comes from the hits of varsity red along the accents of the shoes, along with the gold mesh panel on both sides of the shoe. The sneaker features a mid-foot lockdown strap that was extremely popular in the 1990's and is making a comeback on sneakers in today's age. The strap features an oversize red Nike Swoosh and the shoes are finished with red Nike branding on the heel.

As far as the outsole goes, the bottoms feature a unique treaded pattern that's perfect for gripping turf both on baseball and football fields. While athletes may not be wearing this actual version on the field anymore, we've seen countless NFL players make customs of these and throw actual cleats on the bottom of them. Nevertheless, these have always been popular in the streets and sneakerheads will be excited to see these finally making a comeback.

The Nike Air Diamond Turf will release sometime in Spring 2025 with a hard release date coming sometime soon. The shoes will be available on Nike and will be stocked in select Nike retailers, making these a wider release to the public. They'll come with a retail tag of $150 and should be available in full sizing.
