Fans finally have a first look at the DCU‘s upcoming Superman suit. James Gunn unveiled an image of David Corenswet in the forthcoming film.

In a post on Threads, Gunn posted a picture of Corenswet donning his Superman suit.

“Get ready. Superman 7.11.25.” the caption read.

The image shows Corenswet lacing up the boots as a battle is seen in the backdrop. Some kind of alien spacecraft is hovering and shooting a laser beam onto Metropolis.

As for the suit, it features the giant “S” emblem that Gunn previously unveiled. The rest of the suit features a pattern along the arms. There have been many iterations of the costume, and Gunn's version found a subtle way to make his unique.

This is the first real look at the new Superman film. Gunn's film has been kept under wraps as it is in production. However, this may kick off the promotion of the film. Perhaps a trailer is imminent.

In the comment of the Threads post, Gunn credited Jess Miglio with the photo. He also said that the photo was taken on set and was “entirely in-camera.”

James Gunn's DCU

After directing the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for the MCU, Gunn has moved over the DCU. He will spearhead the new, retooled franchise with Peter Safran.

James Gunn gained notoriety for writing the live-action 2002 Scooby-Doo film and Edgar Wright's Dawn of the Dead. He made his directorial debut with Slither in 2006. Gunn subsequently directed Super in 2010.

In 2014, Gunn directed Guardians of the Galaxy. The film was a huge hit and made a star out of Chris Pratt. It grossed over $770 million worldwide at the box office. Its 2014 sequel topped that making close to $870 million.

The DCU will begin with Gunn's Superman. Ironically, the DCEU kicked off with Zack Snyder's Henry Cavill-led Man of Steel, another Superman film. Gunn made his DC debut directing The Suicide Squad in 2021. He subsequently developed the Peacemaker spin-off series for HBO Max before returning to the MCU to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol .3.

David Corenswet will lead Superman as the title character. Rachel Brosnahan was also cast as the film's Lois Lane. Nathan Fillon, Nicholas Hoult, and Isabela Merced will also star in the film.

Superman will be released on July 11, 2025. It is the inaugural film in the DCU. Before it comes out, though, an animated series, Creature Commandos, will be released. That will mark the official beginning of the new series.

The DCU's first phase of films is titled Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. After Superman, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing, and a Teen Titans film will follow. Several series including a second season of Peacemaker are also in the works.
