The WNBA world has been in somewhat of a frenzy ever since it was announced that the Indiana Fever would be drafting phenom prospect Caitlin Clark with the number one overall pick in the recent 2024 WNBA Draft. Clark set numerous collegiate records during her time with the Iowa Hawkeyes, including becoming the sport's all-time leading scorer and leading her team to two straight national championship game appearances, and now is expected to bring a new energy not only to the Fever organization but also to the WNBA as a whole.
Needless to say, fans are quickly latching onto the once in a generation prospect, and recently, Clark went viral for signing an ultrasound for a fan.
Now, Clark is breaking down her perspective on the hilarious encounter.
A new-look Fever squad
Anytime a team in any sport gets a new prospect with the number one overall pick in the draft, it goes without saying that that team will look a lot different in the coming year, and also have a lot more expectations.
Clark recently broke down how she is dealing with the pressure that comes with being such an icon for the sport.
“No matter what happens there's going to be expectations and pressure on my shoulders and pressure on this team to be really good,” Clark said, per ESPN (via the Associated Press). “That's how you want it. We wouldn't want anything else. We want people showing up to our games, people expecting us to win a lot of basketball games this year and I'm expecting myself to play really well. I don't think it's anything that's ever been different for me.”
One of Clark's new teammates with the Fever will be none other than reigning WNBA rookie of the year Aliyah Boston, who recently spoke on how excited she is to be teaming up with Clark.
“Caitlin has a different eye for the game,” Boston said. “You're able to see how well she passes the ball and how well she shoots it. You see her communicating, you see the way she can find you, I mean her passes are tremendous. I'm like, ‘OK, I'll get a touch, just let me get down there' just because of how well she passes it.”
In any case, Clark and her teammates now just have a couple of preseason games before things get underway in the WNBA regular season. Opposing teams have already been moving their scheduled games vs the Fever into larger venues in anticipation of Clark's effect.
