The college football transfer portal has slowed down a bit but players are still finding new homes. Perhaps the most interesting commitment of them all is from the Arkansas football program.

The Razorbacks landed former four-star wide receiver and former MLB player Monte Harrison, per a report from Richard Davenport of wholehogsports.com.

‘Monte Harrison, a former professional baseball player who was a 4-star receiver in high school a decade ago, has committed to play football at Arkansas.'

Harrison is a former MLB player and was a four-star receiver coming out of high school. But, maybe more surprising than that, is that he was a part of the trade that sent Christian Yelich from the Miami Marlins to the Milwaukee Brewers. Here are the details of that trade back in 2018, per Gerard Gilberto of MILB.com.

‘On Thursday night, Miami and Milwaukee struck a deal to send All-Star outfielder Christian Yelich to the Brewers in exchange for baseball's No. 13  prospect Lewis Brinson, infielder Isan Díaz, outfielder Monte Harrison and right-hander Jordan Yamamoto.'

So, now Harrison goes from the MLB to Arkansas. And, for those keeping track, former NBA player JR Smith made the transition and became a collegiate golfer for North Carolina A&T, so pro athletes going back to college isn't too uncommon.

It has been quite the ride for Harrison. He was a four-star WR out of high school and committed to Nebraska. He received offers from a number of programs, including Michigan State, Missouri, Indiana and Kansas. Harrison's senior year in high school was a good one as he had 60 catches for 1,007 yards and 13 touchdowns and another 12 rushing touchdowns, prompting a lot of interest on the gridiron.

However, he was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of the 2014 MLB Draft and never used any of his eligibility for college, leaving room for him to join Arkansas.

Harrison spent a long time in the minor leagues before finally getting to the MLB level in 2020 with the Miami Marlins. In two stints with the Marlins, he hit just .175 in 41 games before spending the 2022 season with the Los Angeles Angels. He hit just .182 in just nine games with the franchise before going elsewhere. Prior to making his MLB debut, he spent time with a large number of different minor league teams, bouncing around quite a bit before the trade that sent him to Miami.

Now, two years after playing in the MLB with the Angels, he is headed to join Sam Pittman's Arkansas football program in a bizarre turn of events. But, even despite being 28 years old, he has speed and athleticism that should be of interest to the Razorbacks next season.
